A dental crown is one of the most vital restorations offered at Alpine Family Dental in Kalispell, Montana. This restoration provides a lifeline to a broken or damaged tooth by holding it together and shielding it from further damage. Furthermore, a dental crown enhances the appearance of unsightly teeth and also plays a vital role in conjunction with bridges and implants to replace one or more missing teeth.
Getting a traditional crown in many offices can be a lengthy and difficult process, involving several appointments spanning weeks. The good news is that Drs. Evan Olson, Autumn Chapman, and Greg Eller can place a porcelain dental crown in just one appointment! Using CEREC technology, we can send you home with a long-lasting, life-looking restoration after one visit.
Too good to be true? There is only one way to find out — please schedule an appointment today with our office to experience our no-wait dental restorations.
Getting a traditional crown starts with filing down your tooth to create room for a crown. After preparing your tooth, the dentist takes impressions of the prepped tooth to create a mold to be used by an offsite dental lab to fabricate your dental crown. Since fabricating your crown takes several weeks, the dentist temporarily restores the prepped tooth to protect it from injuries and infections.
Once your crown is ready, you’ll book another appointment with your dentist for placement. A traditional crown takes two to three appointments at a bare minimum, but it can take longer if your permanent restoration doesn’t fit comfortably or requires significant adjustments.
With CEREC technology, there is no need for multiple appointments — everything from planning to fabrication is done in-house. Like a typical crown procedure, single-visit crowns start with preparing your tooth. However, instead of biting into a tray of goop to take your bite impressions, we use a digital scanner to create a 3D digital model of your mouth. Next, we review this model on special software and make the necessary adjustments to ensure it fits your tooth specifications.
Once we approve your crown design, we use an in-house milling machine to fabricate your crown — a process that takes 15-20 minutes. Once your crown is milled, we make a few adjustments before bonding it permanently to your tooth using dental cement.
CEREC crowns are clear winners when pitted against traditional crowns. Following are some benefits of CEREC dental crowns.
